ZIMBABWEAN TEAK
Zimbabwean Teak (Baikeia plurijuga) is a heavy, tropical hardwood indigenous to Southern Africa, and is world famous for its beauty and durability. It is one of the few natural materials which becomes darker and more lustrous with age and usage.
Zimbabwean Teak is both finer and heavier than Asian teak species. Because it is extremely stable in humid, cold or dry conditions, it is inadvisable to varnish or paint this exceptional wood if using outdoors, since varnishes will crackle and chip.
Choice of Wood Finish, Care of Wood
The purists will insist that Zimbabwean Teak should never be varnished, but left to age naturally.
However, many customers prefer a light stain and translucent protective coating on their newly made pieces in order to enjoy the deep glowing grain of the wood right away. Baobab Industries therefore supplies furniture in a choice of finish:

ANTIQUE
Stained, sealed and treated with a protective coat of furniture wax |

MAHOGANY
Stained, sealed and treated with a protective coat of furniture wax |

NATURAL
No colour stain, but sealed then treated with penetrating translucent furniture wax |

NUDE
Untreated and sanded to a smooth gloss. |
Teak furniture thrives and beautifies best if rubbed down weekly with a good quality penetrating furniture wax, specialised natural wood oil or beeswax. Outdoor pieces will require more attention depending on your local weather conditions.
